National Packaging Design Day: May 7

Celebrating the Design Industry and Designers

In honor of my new web design and marketing blog, and National Packaging Design Day 2016 around the corner, I am dedicating my first blog post to packaging design. Packaging design is the first impression of a product because the exterior is the first thing the consumer sees. It plays a very significant role in marketing and branding, so it’s important that it’s done right. If your company doesn’t have the proper design and digital marketing team, your branding might already be lacking. Every product needs packaging, so don’t miss the opportunity to use it as a message for your brand.

Some key elements of web design include colors, fonts, shapes, textures, and materials used. Whatever elements are decided upon, they should reflect the product and the brand. Some are made to be interactive, while others are made simply to be attractive. Today, more than ever, we know how important it is to be visual. In the marketing world, consumers respond best to visual content. This includes photos and videos on social media, infographics, packaging design, and more! Can you think of other ways visual content wins?

Let’s take a peek at some of my favorite packaging designs to give you a better idea:

I personally LOVE packaging design and the innovative designs I see in the stores. I know that packaging design works on me because I’m always picking up the coolest looking products. Like anything else, you have to apply the quote, “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but it’s hard to sometimes. I would hope that the product underneath the packaging is an honest and quality one, but consumers need to be responsible with their choices. Next time you’re in the store, pay attention to the different packaging designs out there, it may sway your purchases and give you ideas for your own company.
